Hallet E. Cole collection on Zeppelins and lighter-than-air craft, circa 1905-1971.

Collection comprises books, clippings and articles, ephemera and artifacts, photographs and models related to airships collected by Hallet E. Cole, who was particularly interested Zeppelins and other rigid airships, as well as Ferdinand von Zeppelin. Books include 200 volumes, some in German and French, about airships, pilots, and aviation. Ephemera includes clippings, pamphlets, menus, and flight maps from the Graf Zeppelin, Hindenburg and other airships. Artifacts include flags, insignia, coins, and airship parts. Collection includes three containers of photographs of airships and airship pilots, as well as several airship models.

Hallett E. Cole (1900-1974) collected publications, photographs, and artifacts related to airships, especially Zeppelins and other rigid airships. At first a hobby, his collection and library became increasingly directed to the goal of generating public interest in airships. Cole believed that, given modern materials and technology, giant airships could be built that would be economical, convenient and non-polluting transportation for heavy freight and passengers.
